Graduates/MBAs/Law Students
Obviously, this is a key group for the JCSC
to work with, just for your own social well-being. Seeing as how I did not know
anyone when I first moved to Austin, I was eager to meet some people my own age. Grad
student events mostly consisted of Happy Hours. I have started of the large database
of Graduate e-mails, every time I meet a new grad I add them to this database. Also,
they will start adding their friends to the list too,
Happy Hours (soon to be called gin and jews)
We had our first Happy Hour at Trudys. I got there early to reserve some tables.
Spring Semester I designed a cute flyer and made contacts with the Jewish Law Students Group and the Jewish MBA
groups, they helped post flyers and send out e-mail to their lists. We had
a happy hour at 129 West 4th street and 80 people showed up! We also
invited Impact, the young Jewish professional group in Austin. People had a great
time and I got many names e-mailed to me eager to be part of this list. I recommend in the future having a clipboard so it
can be circulated at the event to collect names; I was too busy drinking peach martinis to think of this. We also had a Happy Hour at Lounge, many new people showed up, and it seemed to be a good time.
Bottom line, as the JCSC/organizer it is
your role to introduce yourself and be friendly with everyone who shows up. This
really can work to your advantage, as you now have a reason to talk to that cute guy who shows up (hehe). But, it is equally important to make sure that you
introduce people to each other so that everyone is chatting and enjoying him or herself! Be careful not to get too drunk,
you are also the host of this event, and it is imortant to leave a good impression on your guests.
Wine and Cheese
During Sukkot, I teamed up again with impact
and we had a great Wine and Cheese party in the Sukkah. The e-mail encouraged
everyone to bring their favorite bottle of winewow did we have a lot of wine! Hillel
provided the cheese and crackers, and impact bought wine cups.
